How to Choose Your Diamond ?
At Amantys Joaillerie, each diamond is selected with great care and comes with a recognised certification. Guided by the 4Cs – Carat, Colour, Clarity and Cut – our gemmologists help you choose a stone that reflects your emotions and your story.

The Four Essential
Characteristics of a Diamond

The four fundamental criteria – Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat, form the universal basis for diamond analysis.
Each stone is precisely graded on these aspects, allowing for an objective assessment of its value. The worldwide standardisation of diamond grading was established through a strategic collaboration between De Beers and the GIA in the 1940s, marking a decisive moment in the history of gemmology.

Understanding the 4Cs of a Natural Diamond

Carat

One carat equals 0.2 grams, a measurement of weight, not necessarily visible size.
The relationship between carat weight and visual size is non-linear: a 1-carat diamond appears only about 25% larger than a 0.5-carat stone, despite being twice as heavy.
This makes it the costliest of the 4Cs.

Clarity

Assessing a diamond’s natural inclusions requires advanced expertise and specialised tools.
Gemmologists use a 10x magnifying loupe to examine each stone carefully from multiple angles.

Colour

The GIA colour scale ranges from D (exceptional white) to Z (noticeable yellow tint), comprising 23 subtle grades.
This precise system enables a detailed evaluation of each stone’s tone.

Cut

Cut determines a diamond’s brilliance. An “Excellent” cut ensures optimal sparkle and light performance.
The classic round brilliant cut, with its 57 expertly arranged facets, remains the most iconic, designed to maximise light reflection and achieve unparalleled brilliance.

Balancing the 4Cs: Finding the Right Harmony
Prioritise an ideal cut to maximise brilliance. A slight compromise on clarity (VS2) or colour (G–H) is often imperceptible to the naked eye — yet allows you to select a larger stone.
For example, a well-cut 0.80ct G–VS2 diamond will often appear more brilliant than a poorly proportioned 0.60ct D–VVS1 stone.
Brilliance should always come first.
