How to Choose an Engagement Ring?

You’re ready to take the leap and propose to the person who lights up your life with a diamond engagement ring. At Amantys, we believe the key to a confident choice lies in knowledge.
As experts in natural diamonds, we offer you bespoke guidance to turn your proposal into an unforgettable and meaningful moment.

The Origins of the Engagement Ring

The tradition dates back to Ancient Rome, where men offered iron rings to their future wives. Worn on the fourth finger of the left hand, the ring was believed to be connected directly to the heart by a special vein.
The inclusion of diamonds in engagement rings is more recent. According to legend, Agnès Sorel, mistress of King Charles VII in the 15th century, was one of the first women to wear diamond-studded jewellery.

The word “diamond” comes from the Greek Adamas, meaning “invincible” and “indestructible”. It has come to represent strength, purity, and eternity, the ultimate symbol of commitment.
Times have changed, and with them, production techniques and traditions. Our Gemmologist Advisors guide you in designing your ideal diamond engagement ring, tailored to your vision and your budget.

As for the wedding band, it seals your union and complements your unique style, worn alongside the engagement ring or on its own, the choice is yours.

Design Possibilities

At Amantys, you have three options. Your ideal engagement ring might already exist among our signature collections, feel free to browse and find the one that speaks to you.

If you’ve found a design you love but would like to personalise it, that’s entirely possible. And if you have a unique idea but don’t know how to bring it to life, we’re here to guide you through every step. Our bespoke service is designed to transform your vision into reality.

Choosing a Style : Creative or Timeless?

The style of your engagement ring will reflect your partner’s personality. Every Amantys creation is born from your imagination and your intent.

If you prefer simplicity and classic lines, our timeless designs are made for you. Take, for example, our iconic Délicate Brillant ring, with its fine band, diamond halo and brilliant-cut centre stone, it blends elegance and refinement effortlessly. Looking for something bolder? The Charmante Brillant ring is a standout choice. Its pear-shaped side stones form a floral-inspired setting, drawing every gaze with radiant flair.

Les 4C d'un diamant

Choosing an ethical diamond engagement ring means understanding the 4Cs, the four essential qualities that determine a diamond’s beauty and value.

  • Carat: The weight of a diamond. 1 carat equals 0.20 grams.
  • Clarity: Indicates the number and size of internal inclusions. The fewer the inclusions, the more valuable and rare the diamond.
  • Colour: While colourless diamonds are the most sought after, there are 23 shades ranging from D (pure white) to Z (light yellow).
  • Cut: The way the diamond is shaped and polished. The cut determines how much the stone sparkles, and it's the only C entirely crafted by human hands.

When creating a bespoke ring, you are free to select and balance these elements to suit your vision. Each engagement ring comes with a GIA certificate (Gemological Institute of America), ensuring both traceability and ethical sourcing.

Transparency is one of our core values, we are committed to crafting a ring that reflects your story and upholds the highest standards of quality.

Choosing the Right Metal : Gold or Platinum?

White Gold is a timeless favourite, while Yellow Gold offers a warm, golden glow. Rose Gold, with its modern hue, suits all ring styles.
Finally, Platinum is a rare and more malleable metal; though we advise against using it for micro-prong settings, which require firmer structure.

Our tip: Consider the style of the setting when choosing your metal. Browse our collections to see how each metal complements different designs. The final choice is entirely yours, down to the smallest detail.

How to Find the Right Ring Size?

Ring size corresponds to the circumference of the finger. For a finger measuring 5.2 cm in circumference, the ring size is 52 (multiply by 10).
Amantys offers a printable guide to help you determine your ring size from home. Or borrow a ring discreetly for measurement!

Our Gemmologists can also measure your finger in person using professional tools such as the triboulet or ring sizer. Because finger size can change over time, we offer a complimentary resizing with no time limit.

What Budget for an Engagement Ring?

Designing a once-in-a-lifetime ring is a meaningful step. At Amantys, we adapt to your budget with total transparency. Each appointment begins with an introductory gemmology session, where you’ll learn the science of diamonds.

Inside our diamond lab, you’ll have the chance to touch, observe and understand natural diamonds certified by the GIA.
This bespoke guidance is entirely free of charge and without obligation. You’ll only pay for the ring you choose, crafted in Paris, in our Atelier, by expert jewellers.
Whatever your budget, our team will help you bring your vision to life.

The Pre-Proposal Ring

It takes 7 to 8 weeks for our Atelier to craft your dream ring. If time is short, our pre-proposal ring is the perfect solution.
Our jewellers will lend you a temporary ring so you can propose without delay. Then, return with your fiancée to design the final, dazzling engagement ring together.
